In the mid-Seventies, South Korea was still emerging from its wartime devastation. The industrial expansion that characterizes the country today had barely started.

Vietnam babylift

This happened to have been the time of the final US withdrawal from Vietnam. On the 747 taking me back from Seoul for Tokyo, almost the entire flight was dedicated to newborn babies destined for new homes in the US. Each of these babies on this flight was destined for Salt Lake City.
