The 1970s Far East

It was a very different world. The most powerful country in the region was Japan. China was only just emerging from Maoist starvation followed by an anti-intellectual Cultural Revolution. Taiwan did not fear invasion by a weak China. South Korea was only jjust starting to industrialize.
