Taroko Gorge

Taiwan’s Beauty Spot

A spectacular region of high mountains and deep canyons in north-central Taiwan.

A rice field, then a temple

Taiwan had no trade with China in those days, so it had to provide all its own food. Next to the national park for the Gorge, there was intensive farming.

The Eternal Spring Shrine was built to honor the workers that died while building the Central Cross-Island Highway.
