Gateway to the Middle East

Though Tǔrkiye is the westernmost Asian country (plus one province across the Bosphorus in Europe), its position on the Iraqi border places it on the periphery of the Middle East conflict. It was the center of the Ottoman Empire. from 1299 to 1922.
