UK: Wainwright Day 11 – Osmotherley to Blakey

The North York Moors

We have now climbed onto a flat limestone karstland, which a thick growth of heather makes absolutely silent. No wonder so many mysteries have been set on this landscape.

Lush gardens

On this day, Osmotherley is the last place we see human-tended gardens. After that, we’re on the rolling moor the whole way.

An all-stone bus shelter
After leaving Osmotherley, we climb four moorland hills
Canola grows in the valley far below
We pause for lunch – and I heard a cuckoo!
The last few miles to Blakey are along this dead-flat rail trail.
This time, all of us stay in one place
