Flagstaff
High Country History
Located at 7000 ft above the Mogollon Rim, the ancient earthquake fault that divides the Kaibab Plateau from the lower part of the state, Flagstaff got its start as a lumber town in the 1800s. With the founding of Northern Arizona University in 1899, it has become an intellectual and cultural hub.
R: Though the Packard Motel is long gone, its sign is now a historic site.

Old Town
The old Santa Fe station is still an Amtrak stop, one overnight hop day from Los Angeles on the Southwest Chief line that ends in Chicago.

The University Town
Student culture is strong in old Flagstaff
