Glen Canyon Dam

A Dam Too Far ?

Glen Canyon is the last major dam on the Colorado River and the farthest upstream. Controversial since its construction in the early 1960s, it is most important today as water storage. Because of the current long drought on the Colorado, the last time the dam was filled to capacity was 1983.

Glen Canyon’s lake is over a hundred miles long and submerges a popular rafting canyon, which largely accounts for the controversy

In contrast to Hoover Dam, highway traffic have never had to spiral down into the canyon and cross the dam itself. This bridge was built with Glen Canyon Dam.
