Lake Powell

Above Glen Canyon

Lake Powell on the Colorado River, is the filled Glen Canyon, behind Glen Canyon Dam. It is now a popular recreation spot, especially for house boating, because of its long shoreline and its many places to visit.

Lake Powell Resort

Lake Powell Resort: Outside by the pool. The resort is at Wahweap Mariona, near the dam, and is a natural starting point for a houseboat adventure on the lake.

The Bathtub Ring: This white band shows the high water mark at ‘full pool’, 100 feet higher than today’s level
Looking at the Resort from the current water line. The round building is the Rainbow Room restaurant.
Looking forward. The bridge is at right.
Sleeping accommodations on the boat
Equipment and critical supplies piled at the bow. The rope is mostly used or anchoring.

Underway!

We leave Wahweap bay through a long, narrow channel upstream toward Padre Bay

These channel walls may look artificial, but this is the natural state of Glen Canyon

A first camp, then onward

Our first night on the Lake was at Coffee Camp. As we settle in for the night, the sun sets on Tower Butte.

Some guests sleep on the boat, others onshore
Leaving camp the next morning
Antelope Marina, another small anchorage
On the beach at Cookie Jar
…then pulled ashore…
A small animal skeleton
Leonard takes a dip
Mouth of the wash
Dinosaur Rock and Dominguez Butte. We camped on the other side of it on Friday night.
Mike tends the campfire
Striped bass abound here, too
At Dangling Rope Marina, halfway up the lake, there are two fuel barges, one empty and riding high
Carp beg for a handout
Navajo Mountain
By the time we reach Padre Bay, the wind picks up considerably. Waves break over the bow.

Back to Wahweap

We return the way we came to the Marina at the dam. A last meal, and we’re back onshore.

Heading home!
