Chile – Agostini Fjord

The Ventus Australis

A view of the ship as we sail among the small islands south of the Chilean mainland..

Into the Boats

We use rubber Zodiac boats to lighter to shore while the ship keeps station.

Ancient Ice

The fjord’s tidewater glaciers spill ice into the sea that fell as snow on the glacier’s nevé, or snowfield, high above the glacier many years ago. Because it has stayed high up in the glacier, it has remained pure.

Pushing Boulders Aside

This boulder has been carried down from far above by the implacably moving ice.

A Lonely Beach

We land at a small bay on the fjord and do some exploring, returning to the ship just in time to avoid the rain on our view window in that last picture.
