“Where America’s Day Begins”

This unincorporated US possession in the Mariana Islands is no longer the forgotten corner of the country it once was. Its location west of the International Date Line produced its motto, and now that the US Navy has moved its Philippine operations there, it has assumed major strategic importance. There is increasing talk of it being admitted as a state.
